The Kingston West Police Division has recorded the highest increase in murders so far this year, surpassing the figure for the corresponding period in 2019.
The area is now under a state of emergency.
Figures released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force show during the period January 1 to July 25, murders in the police division were up 54 per cent.
Fifty-seven people were killed, compared to 37 during the same period last year.
However, the police data revealed that Jamaica's murder tally during the period declined by 2.5 per cent.
There were 749 murders down from 768 last year.
Shootings also declined with 84 fewer cases than the 767 reported during the same period in 2019.
