Millions of dollars worth of goods and appliances went up in flames on Monday morning after two shops were gutted at the Constant Spring Arcade in St. Andrew.

The shops were operated as restaurants and bars. A third bar was damaged in the blaze.

The loss is estimated at $6.8 million.

Assistant Superintendent with the York Park Fire Station, Courtney Thompson says four units responded to the fire which started about 9:05 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Kedesha Miller said the fire started in her restaurant and bar. She said her loss is substantial.

"I lost a lot. Nothing was saved," she said, adding that her loss is "in the millions, because mi have a lot of high end liquors...mi buy up goods; mi even carrying in some good yesterday, so you know mi have a lot of stuff".

The other restaurant and bar that was gutted was being used to store items for the business.

The shop operators are hoping that assistance will come from the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation.
