Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central George Wright's presence in the House of Representatives continues to be a source of contention in that chamber.
Mr. Wright on Tuesday afternoon took a seat on the opposition side of the House for the second time.
However, Leader of Opposition Business Anthony Hylton indicated his presence was not welcomed, telling the House Speaker there was "a stranger in our midst on this side of the House."
Mr. Hylton was quickly interrupted by his counterpart on the government side, Edmund Bartlett, who took issue with his statement.
Speaker of the House Marissa Dalrymple also addressed the issue, insisting that it was proper for Mr. Wright to sit on the opposition side.
"I am saying that I have looked in this parliament and I am not blind. I see no stranger. I see members of the opposition sitting on the opposition bench. Every member sitting in here this evening is a duly elected member of parliament," she asserted.
She would allow no further debate on the matter, despite protests from opposition members.
Mr. Wright's position in the House of Representatives has been a source of contention since his return from a leave of absence three weeks ago.
He took leave in the wake of controversy and a police investigation into the assault of a woman, which was captured on video.
The police closed their investigation because of lack of evidence.
