Police monitoring Westmoreland community amid deadly gang rivalry

The Area One Police are keeping a close watch on the community of Crowder in Westmoreland following Tuesday's deadly shootout involving rival gangs.

Copeland Sankey, who was freed by the court in 2020 following accusations that he was a member of the Westmoreland-based Kings Valley Gang, was killed during the gun battle which took place about 5 a.m.

Two other persons were shot.

Two firearms and ammunition were reportedly seized.

A source told Radio Jamaica News that the police have increased their presence in Crowder to prevent reprisal attacks.

It was reported that Mr. Sankey and two other men were travelling in a Toyota Voxy when thugs opened gunfire on the vehicle, hitting the three men.

About an hour after the incident, a 19-year-old man was shot and seriously injured when gunmen went to Crowder and opened gunfire.

A house owned by Mr. Sankey's family was also shot up in the nearby community of Morgan's Bridge in Kings Valley.

The police say members of the Kings Valley gang have been involved in murders, shootings and extortion in Westmoreland.
