Rank and file police officers get improved wage offer

By Clinton McGregor

Radio Jamaica News has been informed that the Ministry of Finance has presented an improved offer to the rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The improved offer was submitted during a meeting Tuesday with the Central Executive of the Police Federation.

But there is no word yet from the Police Federation on if it will take the package to its members for a vote.

The Police Federation has so far refused to sign off on the package under the compensation review programme, arguing that some of its members would be taking home less pay following the restructuring exercise.

In the meantime, the Police Officers' Association (POA) has written to the Finance Minister explaining its decision to reject the wage offer presented to that group.

POA President Senior Superintendent Wayne Cameron told Radio Jamaica News that the association wrote to the Minister on Tuesday evening after the group rejected the offer.

The senior officers maintained that there are a number of anomalies in the pay scales tabled by the Finance Ministry.
