State witness says alleged One Don Gang leader admitted to killing JUTC head Douglas Chambers

A former community don turned state witness on Monday morning revealed in the Home Circuit Court that the alleged leader of the One Don Gang, Andre 'Blackman' Bryan, told him that he killed Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) head Douglas Chambers in 2008.

The witness told the court that Mr. Bryan showed him the firearm he said he used to shoot Mr. Chambers twice in his head.

The witness said Mr. Bryan sold the firearm.

Mr. Chambers was gunned down outside the JUTC's depot in Spanish Town, St. Catherine on June 27, 2008.

Mr. Bryan was acquitted of the murder in 2016.

'Woman did the talking'

The state witness also told the court that top-tier members of the One Don Gang met often, during which the lone female accused, Stephanie Christie, did most of the talking.

He disclosed that Andre Bryan would call a meeting each time an issue arose.

He said on one occasion Miss Christie chastised the gang members for being lazy and reminded one of the gangsters that Mr. Bryan built and furnished his house.

The witness said on another occasion he was asked to retrieve police murder statistics from the internet.

He said during his presentation of the statistics to the gang, Mr. Bryan stated that other parishes should not be leading St. Catherine in the murder tally.

The court also heard that Mr. Bryan had two lists of people who were marked for death.

The witness said Mr. Bryan expressed annoyance that the killings were not being carried out quickly.

He told the Home Circuit Court that a policeman, who is from Kitson Town in St. Catherine, assisted the gang by pointing out where the mother of convicted gang leader Tesha Miller lived.

Miller is the reputed leader of the Clansman Gang, of which the One Don Gang is a faction.

Soldier and gang member?

The witness also testified that he was not convinced that defendant Jermaine Robinson was a Jamaica Defence Force soldier until he saw him in uniform at a checkpoint in Spanish Town.

The witness said Andre Bryan introduced him to Mr. Robinson in 2017.

According to the witness, Mr. Robinson told a colleague at the check point to let him through without being searched.

He told the court that Mr. Robinson also made enquiries about Mr. Bryan's whereabouts before requesting the witness's phone number.

He testified that at least three of the 33 defendants on trial killed and buried two men who lived in Denham Town, Kingston.

The witness said he was the lookout man.

He claimed that defendants Marco Miller and Pete Miller - who are brothers - and Rivaldo Hylton participated in the killings.

The witness also testified that another defendant, Joseph McDermott, wanted to remove the skull from the body of a man that was buried.

He said Mr. McDermott told him that he wanted to drink blood from the skull.

Regular PNP meetings

The witness told the court that he along with defendant Carl Beech frequently attended People's National Party meetings across Jamaica.

He said women would transport illegal guns to and from the events.
