Teen girl rescued by St. Mary police following abduction

Quick action by the St. Mary police led to the rescue of a 17-year-old girl who was abducted by hoodlums in Portland on Thursday evening.
 
A suspect was detained.
 
Investigators reported that about 7 o'clock, the teenager boarded a vehicle which was operating as a taxi in Port Antonio.
 
The two occupants abducted the teenager and headed towards St. Mary.
 
The child objected and demanded that they stop the vehicle.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that during the ordeal, the teenager used her cellphone to contact her family who called the police.
 
A dragnet was set up in St. Mary and the grey Toyota Probox was intercepted by the Castleton Police.
 
One of the abductors fled the vehicle and escaped.
 
The other suspect, who is from Vineyard Town, St. Andrew, was taken into custody.
 
Investigators believe the teenager was being transported to a location in Kingston.
