Trinidadian among two arrested by US authorities for alleged link to ISIS

The United States has laid charges against two people, including a 53 year old Trinidadian, who were detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces and recently transferred to the custody of the FBI.

The authorities said Emraan Ali, a US citizen born in Trinidad and his son 19 year old Jihad Ali, who was born in the US, were charged with conspiracy to provide material support to ISIS.

Both defendants made their initial appearances in federal court in the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaints, in March 2015, Emraan Ali travelled to Syria with his family to join ISIS.

Mr. Ali and his son reportedly received military and religious training and served as fighters in support of the terrorist organisation.
