Less than 24 hours after he was demoted, Trinidad and Tobago's newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Darryl Smith, has been fired.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister on Tuesday said Mr. Smith's dismissal followed a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, and Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis.
It said during the meeting, new information came to the attention of the Prime Minister.
On Monday, Prime Minister Rowley removed Mr. Smith as the Sports and Youth Minister, after the Sunday Express newspaper exposed his alleged unwanted sexual advances on his personal secretary.
It is alleged Mr. Smith's unwanted advances to the former staffer resulted in a settlement by the Ministry using taxpayers' money.
The Prime Minister's office said a committee has been appointed to thoroughly review the circumstances surrounding the dismissal and payment of compensation to the former staffer.
