Debate continues over Jamaica's likely bid for international sporting events

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Consensus appears to be growing among local stakeholders that Jamaica should attempt to host the IAAF World Relays in 2021 instead of pushing for the 2020 World Under-20 Championships or a Commonwealth Games in the near future. JAAA president Dr Warren Blake along with former athlete and now RJRGLEANER Group  track and field analyst Dwayne Extol believe it would be more practical for Jamaica to bid to host the 2021 World Relays.

Former Jamaica Olympic Association president Mike Fennell has suggested that the 2026 Commonwealth Games may be a long term option for Jamaica to submit a bid in terms of a multi-sport international event. Fennell was recently put in charge of a Jamaican Bidding Committee.
