Jamaica to tackle Copa America

Jamaica will have an opportunity to match strides with some of the very best in world football next year after being invited to contest the Copa America, the top football competition in South America.

Fellow CONCACAF team Mexico will also take part in the tournament which features top world teams such as Brazil, Argentina and host Chile.

It's set for July 2015.

The announcement was made by JFF President Captain Horace Burrell at the Red Stripe Premier League's presentation ceremony at the Courtleigh Auditorium Thursday night.

It was also announced by Red Stripe Brand Manager, Jamaica, Erin Mitchell, the nation's top flight football competition will carry the Red Stripe tag at least for another year.

Red Stripe has been the League's major sponsor for the last three seasons but the contract expired this year.

It's unsure what will happen beyond the 2014-2015 season as the proposed franchise based system is to come into effect thereafter.
