It was a bombshell day in West Indies cricket, as Jamaican Rovman Powell was removed as Twenty20 captain. He has been replaced by 50 overs skipper Shai Hope. The announcement was made at the quarterly press conference of cricket West Indies on Monday in Antigua.

Meanwhile, former West Indies white ball captain and global T20 icon Dwayne Bravo has slammed Cricket West Indies (CWI) for removing Rovman Powell as T20 captain.

Bravo who is also a part of the Kolkotta Knight Riders coaching set-up in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) where Powell is based, noted that as a former player and fan, Monday's announcement was "easily one of the worst decisions ever".

Bravo said Powell was deserving of much better treatment, having guided the team from 9th spot when he took over the reins in February 2023 to third place up to November 2024. The T20 team's current fifth place ranking remains the West Indies best across the three formats.
