Dictionary.com adds Black American vernacular to its database

Dictionary.com has included several African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) words like finna and chile, to its database.
 
The the online dictionary site has now included, 450 brand-new entries, updated 7,600 entries and added 94 new definitions on existing entries — with a focus on race and identity, and COVID-19's effect on culture.
 
Finna is a phonetic spelling representing the African-American Vernacular English variant of 'fixing to', while chile is a phonetic spelling of 'child'.
 
Another word that was added is superspreader, which is a person who spreads a contagious disease more easily and widely than the average infected person.
 
Language has always evolved over time, and the change is in an effort to reflect growing diversity.
