Netherlands prosecutors seek eight-year prison sentence for Jah Cure

Reggae singer Jah Cure may be facing a lengthy stay behind bars, as prosecutors in the Netherlands are seeking an eight-year prison sentence.

The 43-year-old, born Siccaturie Alcock, has been charged with attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault or attempted aggravated assault.

He is to return to court on March 22.

Jah Cure reportedly entered a self-defense plea in January, stating that he was in possession of a knife on the day of the incident on October 1, because he was wearing expensive jewellery.

However, the claim was dismissed by the prosecutors, who stated that the entertainer deliberately sought a confrontation based on threatening evidence sent to the victim Nicardo Blake's phone.

The prosecution also argued that the actions of Jah Cure were premeditated and his hot temper could have caused distress to the general public, having attacked his accuser in broad daylight in Dam Square.
