Jamaican-owned technology company Amber Group has surpassed one million devices manufactured, sold and deployed in Africa through its hardware division, Amber IoT.
The Kingston-headquartered company says the milestone makes it one of the Caribbean's most successful technology exporters.
Amber's Internet of Things (IoT) devices are being used by utilities, logistics companies, retailers and security firms across Africa.
The technology allows everyday equipment to communicate information remotely. These includes smart electricity and water meters, vehicle trackers, security systems, cold-storage monitors and automated street lights.
Amber says its devices are designed by its own hardware and software engineers and manufactured at a specialised facility in South Africa, before being connected to the company's proprietary cloud and artificial intelligence platforms.
Amber says the success of its African operations also benefits Jamaica, as overseas earnings help to finance initiatives such as the Amber HEART Academy and the Amber National AI Lab.
