Cuban president willing to hold talks with Trump amid US pressure

Faced with the country's worst economic crisis in decades, which has led to a shortage of food, electricity and medicine, Cuban President Rafael Díaz-Canel said the country is willing to engage in discussions with US President Donald Trump.

However, Mr. Díaz-Canel suggested that these talks would have to be one of mutual respect as two sovereign nations, and the right to self-determination and without interference in its internal affairs.

He denied that any discussions are taking place after President Trump said that he must "make a deal before it's too late".

Cuba is currently experiencing an energy crisis after the United States cut off the supply of Venezuelan oil to the country.

Both Mexico and Russia have however promised to help the country to deal with this problem.
