The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) will launch its "Pay As You Go" metering service today.

It will allow JPS customers to control daily usage of  electricity with the pre-paid service.

Two thousand customers in Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine will initially benefit.

Tishan Lee, head of Marketing at the JPS, told RJR News that, under the current phase, certain residential and business customers can sign up.

According to Miss Lee, there is no risk of  customers running out of electricity, as they might run out of pre-paid telephone credit.

"You are alerted when you are running low, so before you run out of credit, you can just call you and we'll forward you an additional five kilowatt hours until you get the opportunity to top it up," she explained.
