JPS to install 12 new EV charging stations by year-end

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is set to install 12 electronic charging stations across the island by the end of the year, which will bring the total number of stations operated by the company to 22.

The move comes in an effort to improve the infrastructure in support of the electronic vehicle sector.

The charging stations will be constructed in partnership with gasoline retailers, including Texaco and Total.

The energy company is also implementing private charging stations for commercial and large developments.

The company's Senior Vice President of Generation, Joseph Williams, said the additions will bring JPS closer to having an electric vehicle charging station within 30 kilometres of anywhere on the island.

He said the company has completed the first phase of the plan, with the construction of ten charging stations across the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. James, St. Ann, Clarendon, Westmoreland and Portland.

The JPS is adding two per parish, in Westmoreland and Clarendon.

Four more will also be built in St. Ann, two in Manchester and one in Trelawny.

One more charging station is to be added in St. Andrew.
