The asset base of financial institutions contracted slightly in the first half of the year, but that did not stop National Commercial Bank (NCB) from consolidation its claim as the nation's biggest bank.
Total assets in the commercial banking sector at the end of June stood at over $579 billion.
NCB had 38% of the total or $219 billion in assets, making the Michael Lee Chin led institution the biggest commercial bank by asset in Jamaica.
The Bank of Nova Scotia with $190 billion was the second largest bank measured by assets at the end of June.
RBTT, with 10% of all commercial bank assets, maintained its hold as the third largest bank in Jamaica while First Caribbean International Bank was the fourth largest.
First Global, Citibank and Pan Caribbean Bank were the fifth to seventh largest banks respectively.
