United Airlines reaches settlement with man dragged off plane

The doctor dragged off a United Airlines flight from Chicago earlier this month has received a financial settlement from the airline.

Lawyers for Dr. David Dao, 69, say a condition of the payout is that the "amount remain confidential".

Dr. Dao was violently removed by airline law enforcement officers after refusing to give up his seat to United staff.

Meanwhile, United Airlines said it will offer up to US$10,000 to passengers who give up seats on overbooked flights.

The change comes as part of a review following the incident which saw the doctor losing two front teeth and suffering a broken nose.

The incident caused international outrage and widespread condemnation of the airline.
