Jamaica opens medal account in athletics at Jr Pan Am Games

Jamaica has opened its medal account in athletics at the Junior Pan Am Games in Asuncion, Paraguay. The nation captured five medals including 2 gold on day 3 of competition.

There were gold and bronze for Jamaica in the men's 400 metre hurdles final, where Tyreece Hyman captured the event in 48.90 seconds. Compatriot Romario Stewart took the bronze in 50.11 seconds.

Jasauna Dennis secured gold in the men's 400 metre final, clocking a games record 45.56 seconds. Fellow Jamaican Shaemar Uter was 5th in 46.13 seconds.

Daynea Colstock won bronze in the women's 400 metre hurdles, recording 58.78 seconds with the event going to Mexico's Antonio Sanchez in 55.91 seconds.

There was also a bronze medal for Shanakaye Anderson in the women's 400 metres where she logged 53.41 seconds. Canada's diana proctor captured the gold medal in 51.97 seconds. Jamaica also has a silver and bronze in swimming at the games.
