Lynvale Hamilton, President of the Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association, has commented on the move by the government to recover money it paid to O'Brien's International Car Sales and Rental to purchase used vehicles for the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Hamilton says that he is unhappy with the turn of events.
"It's rather unfortunate that it had to get to this point. They have not said that they are going to do it but I certainly hope the this does not happen. From the information that I have, it is a decision on the part of the dealer. His interpretation of the contract is that he should not pay the SAT and the GCT."
On Tuesday, the Association came to the defence of O'Brien's.
The company has so far delivered 30 vehicles but is struggling to clear another 66 on the wharf.
The company's request to seek a waiver of the Special Consumption Tax and General Consumption Tax required to clear the vehicles was rejected.
