Another policeman locked up for corruption

Yet another policeman is behind bars on allegations of corruption.

He was picked up late Monday afternoon following a sting operation involving members of the Police Anti-Corruption Branch on Constant Spring Road in St. Andrew.

Head of the Anti-Corruption Branch Assistant Commissioner Justin Felice says the policeman was allegedly caught extorting money from a motorist.

"The Anti-Corruption received a complaint by a member of the public who was stopped by a police officer who was attempting to extort money from him to not give him a ticket for a traffic violation," said ACP Felice.

He says details on the policeman will be released Tuesday.

It was the third time in a week that police personnel were held in an anti-corruption dragnet.

Four policemen were arrested on Wednesday for the 2004 disappearance of two men from a plaza on Washington Boulevard in St. Andrew.

On Thursday a Detective Sergeant and a Constable were arrested for accepting money to obtain a Jamaican passport for the proprietor of a supermarket in St. Catherine.

The proprietor is a foreign national with a work permit and was not entitled to a Jamaican passport.
