Belize Prime Minister John Briceño has defended the decision to allow former foreign affairs minister Eamon Courtenay to remain within the cabinet, even though he resigned his position at the end of last year.
The foreign affairs portfolio has since been taken up by Education Minister Francis Fonseca.
Mr Briceno reminded reporters yesterday that the situation was not unique as the late Fred Martinez, when he was leader of government business, was allowed to attend cabinet meetings of the United Democratic Party government.
He says it is important to continue to have Mr. Courtenay participate in Cabinet meetings.
