The bodies of two men who drowned off the Portland coast yesterday have been recovered.

The men were among four persons who were washed away by strong waves at Frenchman's Cove in Portland.

The body of Andre Mair, 29, was found washed p on the shore about 9am Monday and Gerald Thomas, 25, was found around 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

The men were among four men who got into difficulty while swimming in the sea at the Frenchman's Cove Beach.

Two were rescued but Mr. Mair and Mr. Thomas could not be found.

Mike Lawrence, Manager of the Frenchman's Cove Beach told RJR News that the two men were among 11 persons who partying boisterously at the beach before the incident occurred and had in fact breached beach regulations.

He said the two were unable to swim and did not heed the two warning signs on the beach which alerted beach goers to the dangers of swimming there during stormy weather.
