Residents of communities close to Banks in Clarendon claim
they have more reason to fear that the scaling down of the Exeter Police Station
would leave them exposed to criminal elements.
Their heightened concern follow Thursday night's shooting of seven persons by gunmen who launched an attack at a wake in the community.
On Friday morning, residents of Exeter renewed their lobby for the re-establishment of the police station by using debris to block a section of the road close to the facility.
Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries, while three of the five injured are still in hospital in serious condition.
Dr. Horace Charro a resident, said in light of the shooting, it was clear that the police station needed to remain in the community.
"This only brings forth the urgency of the situation. We need the (police) station more than ever because since the end of last year, the area has been subjected to a number of violent crimes especially shootings. We cannot wait any longer for the Exeter Police Station to be established. We need the policemen back in the area," said Dr. Charro.
He said the residents would be making efforts to hold a meeting with the authorities on the matter.
Two weeks ago, Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin announced that the Exeter Police Station, which serves Banks and other communities would be scaled down to a police post.
Residents had expressed strong opposition to the plan.
