The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Bar Association and the Organisation of Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Associations are calling for an immediate and thorough investigation into the disclosure of private emails involving judges of the Caribbean Court of Justice.
In a joint statement, the two regional legal bodies described the public disclosure of correspondence relating to internal CCJ matters as disturbing and unfortunate.
They say investigators should determine whether the disclosure resulted from an intentional or accidental leak, or from a cyberattack.
The associations also say the CCJ's technical, security and computer systems should be urgently reviewed and strengthened.
They are further calling for an investigation into allegations raised in recent media reports, to establish their accuracy and veracity.
The groups are urging the Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission to facilitate discussions on the allegations and take responsible action in support of the CCJ.
They are also encouraging CCJ judges to resolve internal matters through frank and open discussions, with assistance from the Commission and other stakeholders, including former CCJ judges.
