A man believed to be of unsound mind was killed by an angry mob in Kellits, Clarendon on Tuesday after it was reported that he invaded the home a couple's home in the area.

The couple was reportedly at home when they heard strange sounds outside.

When they went to investigate, they saw a man chopping their front door with a machete.

The frightened couple escaped through a window and raised an alarm.

Residents who went to the house to assist the pair, saw that the man had gained access to the house and was chopping the furniture and appliances into pieces.

The angry mob then set upon the man and hacked him to death.

On Monday 13-year old Dwayne Wilson and Samantha, his 11-year old sister, were attacked and chopped by a mentally challenged man in Portland Cottage also in Clarendon.

David Nugent, 55, reportedly went berserk and chopped another man and the children.

On Tuesday, the Office of the Children's Advocate urged Jamaicans to be more vigilant about monitoring mentally ill persons in their communities.

The agency suggested that such attacks can be prevented if community members identify mentally ill persons and seek help for them in a timely manner.
