Some vendors at the Coronation Market in downtown Kingston are complaining about a reduction in sales since the circulation of a voice note about a flare up of violence.
The vendors tells the Radio Jamaica News team customers have been staying away from the market because of safety concerns.
The vendors say the area is safe for business.
"Nuttn going on downtown man. Dem fi come in and buy because wi is only here with the load, sitting over the load [with] nobody to buy it from yesterday til now...There is no gun shot down here. Everything is going on fine," one vendor says.
The vendor says their goods have been left to spoil.
"...We have pawpaw, ripe banana. All those weh ripe ah vanish away. No body to buy. Those...should ah sell from yesterday and dem deh pan di stall put down suh...plantain ah get overripe."
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson toured the market on Friday.
General Anderson said he is considering establishing a police post in the Coronation Market, which is a hotspot for crime.
"On a more consistent basis, we need some uniformed presence in the market. We're looking at some space here where we'll probably be able to establish a small post in the market," he told reporters.
