Education Ministry lobbies external examiners on behalf of students affected by hurricane

The Ministry of Education is in discussions with administrators of external examinations to develop relief strategies for Jamaican students adversely affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe said the Minister met with the Caribbean Examinations Council on Monday and was scheduled to meet with City and Guilds on Thursday.

Dr. Troupe said there are strategies that can be put in place to support students as they decide how to proceed with their examination, such as reducing the number of subjects that they sit at this time.

She said regarding the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET), which administers the National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica, a decision has already been made to postpone the November sitting.

Dr. Troupe was addressing the launch of National Parent Month on Wednesday.
