The National Fisheries Authority is reminding the public that the lobster season is currently closed.

The closed season runs from April 1 to June 30

Dr Gavin Bellamy, CEO of the National Fisheries Authority, stressed on Friday that the closure of the season is to ensure that there is a sustainable lobster industry.

Dr Bellamy, speaking on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said the closure of the season allows for the proper management of the stock.

He also reiterated that lobster caught before the closure of the season must be declared.

"You're allowed to serve and conserve the lobsters that you have, legally, for 21 days after the beginning of the closed season; however... you need to declare to the National Fisheries Authority that you have these lobsters by April the 7th," he explained.
