Five arrested as police seize high powered rifle in Kingston Central

The authorities have taken five people into custody following a joint police-military operation in the Kingston Central Police Division on Friday afternoon. 
 
Deputy Superintendent in charge of operations Rohan Ritchie says a high-velocity weapon was seized during the operation, which took place between 10 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. at premises located along Gold Street in the Parade Gardens community.
 
"That operation yielded the recovery of an M16 rifle, which was found buried in a vegetative area on the premises. The operation ended incident free," DSP Ritchie.
 
Since the start of the year, the Kingston Central Police has recovered 14 illegal firearms when compared with 11 for the same period in 2024.
