Senator Floyd Morris on Friday created history when he became the first visually impaired person to be elected President of the  Jamaican Senate.

The Senator, who a decade ago was the first blind person to be appointed to the Senate, was elected to the Senate presidency after Reverend Stanley Redwood left the Upper House last week.

In accepting the Presidency,  Senator Morris said he would do his utmost to preserve the dignity of the Senate and uphold the principles and practises of the Upper House, which is the review chamber of the Jamaican Parliament.

Jamaica is the second Caribben country to appoint a visually impaired Senate President. Senator Kerry-Ann Ifill of Barbados is also  visually impaired.
