A former employee of Mayberry Investments who is accused of stealing more than J$6 million from the firm, has gone on trial.
Ann Francis, a former procurement officer at the firm, went on trial on Thursday in the Corporate Area Criminal Court where prosecutors led evidence that between 2010 and 2011, she purchased millions of dollars worth of goods on behalf of Mayberry, including computers, office supplies and cellular phones.
But instead of the items going to Mayberry, prosecutors say she diverted the items for her personal use.
Mayberry uncovered the irregularity when suppliers complained of not being paid.
The Fraud Squad was called in and Francis was charged with larceny as a servant and obtaining money by false pretence.
The trial continues on March 3.
