General Mills issues second recall of products

General Mills has again issued a voluntary recall of its products. Two flavours of Betty Crocker cake mix sold in Jamaica and additional date codes of Gold Medal Flour have been added to General Mills’ previously announced flour recall from July 1, 2016. No other General Mills or Betty Crocker mixes are included in this recall.

The company says the additional recalled is being done out of an abundance of caution. No illnesses reported to date, have been connected to its cake mix.

The release, issued by the Wisynco Group, says, to date, no traces of E. Coli O121 have been found in any General Mills flour products or in the flour manufacturing facility; and the company has not been contacted directly by any consumer reporting confirmed illnesses related to these products.

However, consumers are reminded not to consume any raw products made with flour. Flour is an ingredient that comes from milling wheat, something grown outdoors that carries with it risks of bacteria which are rendered harmless by baking, frying or boiling. They are also reminded to wash their hands, work surfaces, and utensils thoroughly after contact with raw dough products or flour, and to never eat raw dough or batter.

Wisynco Group Trade Marketing Manager Karen Rosen asserts that consumer health and product safety are a very high priority to Wisynco and the principals they represent locally.

“We are taking the necessary precautionary steps by implementing this recall in our market as the safety of our consumers comes first. Consumers who have any of these products with the codes listed, are being asked not to consume the product(s) and to return them to the point of purchase for a full cash refund and we are asking all persons to cooperate and help us to clear their cupboards and pantries of the products cited,” she said.

Consumers can call the Wisynco customer service at 665-9000 for additional information or queries.
