Opposition Leader Mark Golding says moves to weaken the Integrity Commission must be rejected.
There have been growing calls for changes to the gag clause in the Integrity Commission Act.
The Integrity Commission Oversight Committee of the House of Representative has been holding hearings on the Integrity Commission Act.
Some members of the Oversight Committee have been highly critical of how the commission handles investigations.
But speaking Thursday at a meeting of the the Rotary Club of Kingston, Mr. Golding said the anti-corruption agency should be protected against those who seek to undermine its authority.
"Despite its imperfections and teething pains, the Integrity Commission must be resolutely supported to protect that critical institution from those who would want to see it neutered into becoming a kind of paper tiger," said the Opposition Leader.
Touting the Commission's "extensive powers of information gathering and sharing" as well as power to prosecute, Mr. Golding said while the entity has taken some years to find it footing and still has issues to be addressed, "it is important that it not be weakened or knocked off course".
