Veteran politician and Member of Parliament for North East Manchester, Audley Shaw's exit from representational politics, is being marred by a growing squabble over who will be his successor.
The tenured legislator, who is the longest serving MP across Manchester, formally announced his departure at the North East Manchester Jamaica Labour Party Constituency Conference on Sunday.
At the same time, he publicly endorsed Councillor for the Craighead division, Omar Miller, as his replacement.
Of the three JLP councillor candidates who sought election in the February local government election, Mr. Miller was the only successful one.
During his pronouncement, Mr. Shaw told constituents that Mr. Miller had displayed the commitment and determination needed to take on the role of MP.
Mr. Shaw added that it would be thoughtless of him if he did not support Mr. Miller as the JLP's next standard bearer for the constituency.
But that endorsement has not gone over well with another aspirant, Hidran McKulsky, who is also principal of Holmwood Technical High School.
Mr. Mckulsky was noticeably absent from the constituency conference.
In a release shared prior to the event, his management said he felt snubbed as he was not formally invited to attend.
In a subsequent discussion with Radio Jamaica News by phone, Mr. McKulsky said he would decide on his next move following the party's annual conference this Sunday as he is still interested in contesting the seat.
