JFJ calls for Gage-Grey's suspension pending probe

Human rights group, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), is calling for the Public Services Commission to act swiftly in suspending the CEO of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), Rosalee Gage-Grey, from her official duties pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.

The group says while natural justice and due process are needed for a full investigation before permanent measures are taken, Ms. Gage-Grey should not remain in the position while the probe is being conducted.

JFJ contends that the circumstances detailed in the report by the Office of the Children's Advocate are untenable and have eroded public trust amidst allegations of failure to protect wards of the state, alleged interference with investigations along with the misrepresentation of facts.

The call from the human rights group follows the tabling in Parliament of the Office of the Children's Advocate's report into the questionable relationship between the child protection agency and Embracing Orphans founder, Carl Robanske.

JFJ says no real accountability is being offered and a further investigation is warranted to determine if any other child and former ward of the state, in addition to the three outlined in the report, may have been sexually engaged or possibly groomed by Robanske.

The organisation suggests a further investigation by relevant authorities to decide if there are any clear breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act that may warrant termination, criminal charges or other appropriate sanctions of CPFSA officers, beyond just the CEO.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Maureen Dwyer has said there has been no indication from Child Protection and Family Services Agency head Rosalee Gage-Grey that she will be stepping aside to facilitate investigations.

Following the tabling of the scathing OCA report, Youth Minister Fayval Williams on Tuesday urged Gage-Grey to step aside while the Public Services Commission probes her leadership of the agency.

The OCA report accused Mrs Gage-Grey of a "gross breach" of care for engaging Carl Robanske through the agency tasked with caring for and protecting children.
