Justice Carolyn Tie Powell has praised Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Claudette Thompson, who has been serving in that role since April last year, after incumbent King's Counsel Paula Llewellyn stepped away to await the court's ruling on the extension of her tenure.
Lauding Ms. Thompson, Justice Tie Powell said the senior deputy director of public prosecutions acted in the top position under very trying circumstances.
The judge said Ms. Thompson's feet were put to the fire and that she "still had her shoes on", adding that she did well.
The sentiment was echoed by defence attorneys inside the courtroom.
In the meantime, Ms. Llewellyn's attorney, Douglas Leys, said the Justice Ministry is expected to submit the document to the Public Services Commission, for that body to give the green light for Ms. Llewellyn to return to her post.
The Appeal Court ruled last month that Ms. Llewellyn should remain in the position of DPP, in response to legal challenges to her continued appointment as the country's chief prosecutor.
