Mexico beats Jamaica

Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying campaign was in serious trouble after a one nil loss to Mexico at the National Stadium in Kingston.

The Reggae Boyz played fairly well in the first half but Aldo De Nigris headed home comfortably in the 48th minute to give the Mexicans a crucial win and leave the Jamaica’s World Cup dreams in tatters.

It was lapse in concentration coach Theodore Tappa Whitmore told TVJ after the match.

Jamaica got many chances but poor finishing and a couple fine saves by Mexican keeper Jesus Corona helped Mexico keep a clean sheet.  Donovan Ricketts was also outstanding in goal for Jamaica making several excellent saves and keeping the scoreline 1-0.

Jamaica remains at the bottom of the group on 2 points from four games.  Mexico now leads the group on 6 points with Panama on second with five points.  Costa Rica, USA and Honduras who are all on four point didn’t play Tuesday night.   Jamaica plays the USA on Friday in Kingston in a match they must win if they are to harbor any hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.  All other teams in the Concacaf group will also play on Friday.
