Board Chairman of Morant Bay High School, Bishop Christine Gooden-Benguche, is responding to concerns raised by parents regarding the appointment of a new principal.
Bishop Gooden-Benguche told Radio Jamaica News that until the situation with former principal Dr. Dalton Shaw has been resolved, no further action can be taken to appoint a new principal.
After the dismissal of Dr. Shaw in December 2020, concerns are now being raised by parents that a replacement has not been appointed.
Dr. Shaw was fired by the school board following a number of issues relating to professional misconduct, including neglect of duty and inefficiency.
Since then, there have been three acting principals at the St. Thomas-based institution.
Former principal of St. Thomas Technical High, Kerry-Ann Coombs, is the new acting principal at the school.
Bishop Gooden-Benguche added that generally, a tenure limit is applied to the acting principal position.
She also contended that regardless of how effective the appointed acting principal is, the limit must be recognised.
The board chair said a definitive timeline for when the matter will be resolved cannot be given as it is before the courts.
