The People's National Party (PNP) has stepped up its call for chairman of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) and Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ), Norman Brown, to immediately resign from the positions.

It follows Wednesday's revelation by the Chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, Mayor Andrew Swaby, that Estatebridge Holdings violated the permit granted for the construction of four two-bedroom houses in Beverly Hills, St. Andrew.

Opposition Spokesperson on Housing & Sustainable Living, Senator Professor Floyd Morris, first made the call for Mr. Brown, who is a director of Estatebridge, to step down during his State of the Nation presentation last Friday.

Senator Morrison says the situation is untenable and unacceptable, adding that it undermines the public's confidence in the office holder.

He says consistent standards must be upheld in governance.

"It cannot be that one person is removed from their job because they commit a similar offence, and then another, because he's connected politically, is allowed to go without any consequences for his action. And I am calling upon the chairman of the HAJ and the UDC to let us at least give some semblance of respectability to our democratic processes and systems and do the honourable thing, which is to resign amidst what is coming to the fore now," he urged.
