Longstanding Member of Parliament for St. Andrew North Central, Karl Samuda, will not be seeking re-election.
This was disclosed on Friday by Senator Delano Seiveright, Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, who will be seeking to replace him.
Mr Seiveright made the announcement in a video note to constituents, in which he declared that he is ready to serve. He said he has applied to the Jamaica Labour Party's Secretariat to be the JLP's representative in the constituency for the upcoming parliamentary general election.
Senator Seiveright, who was elected Vice Chair for the constituency last November, said he had the full support of Mr Samuda.
Attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, son of Senate President Tom Tavares-Finson, has also expressed an interest in the constituency.
In January, JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang told the media that Mr Samuda was reconsidering his exit from the traditionally safe seat, given the lack of a clear successor and the party's desire to maintain stability in the constituency.
