To maximize incentives from a new sponsorship arrangement, the Jamaica Rugby League will be turning to its support base.
A kit deal with Australian based company Enigma is expected to start in January.
The JRLA’s previous deal with a UK based supplier had ended in May.
Rugby director Romeo Monteith explains that the current deal is more lucrative to his association, which will get a percentage of every replica shirt sold.
“Once we are playing international games, once or two times a year then certainly that sparks more interest from our fan base and it’s possible to sell anywhere from about three to a thousand shirts over the course of a year, so I think that certainly is a better scenario for us”, Monteith said.
There's one confirmed friendly next year for the Jamaica team, the annual match against Canada in July.
The Rugby League Association is also actively pursuing a match against a European team.
