NWA workers serve wage-related ultimatum

Employees of the National Works Agency who are dissatisfied with their proposed salary packages under the new public sector compensation regime have issued an ultimatum to their union to deliver a plan of action by noon, today.

In a letter addressed to Oneil Grant, President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association,  NWA Staff representative Michelle Pryce said normality cannot be guaranteed if a satisfactory response is not forthcoming.

Ms Pryce says the employees are concerned that it was only on Friday, March 3 that they received the final and approved salary scales for the years 2022-2025.

The employees were also informed that the salary scales will take effect this month.

Ms Pryce claims there was no consultation with staff members, who believe the salary packages to be significantly less than those of their counterparts in Executive Agencies and Central Government.

She says if the proposed packages remain it will result in a reduction in salaries at all levels.
