Office of Political Ombudsman to meet with police on Kingston Central incident

By Prince Moore

The Political Ombudsman division says it has scheduled a meeting with the Police High Command in Kingston Central following reports of gunfire in the division on Sunday.

The Political Ombudsman division says it will be undertaking a tour of the area to observe political activity and assess the general atmosphere surrounding electioneering at this time.

While the nature and circumstances of the incident remain unverified, the Political Ombudsman has emphasized that no act of violence, real or perceived, should be tolerated or allowed to interfere with the conduct of free and fair elections.

The Office is again appealing to political actors and their supporters to exercise good judgment, responsible conduct, and adherence to the principles of peaceful political engagement.

As Jamaica moves further into the electoral season, the Office of the Political Ombudsman is urging all political participants to continue embracing restraint, civility, and the rule of law.

The Political Ombudsman is also encouraging supporters, candidates, and the wider public to avoid any action that may be interpreted as threatening, provocative, or disruptive to the democratic process.

The Office has sought to reaffirm its commitment to upholding the Political Code of Conduct, safeguarding the constitutional rights of freedom of association, expression, and peaceful assembly.
