The St. Catherine Parish
Council has ordered an immediate investigation regarding the unhealthy
conditions which currently prevail at the Old Harbour Bay Fishing beach.
The investigation comes on the heels of a damning report which was tabled at Thursday's monthly meeting of the council.
In a two page report which was read by Public Health Inspector Simeon Bromfield it was revealed that none of the 600 users of the beach has a valid food handlers permit.
Additionally, none of the 17 food establishments has a valid food establishment license.
The reportedly unhygienic storage of raw fish and poor garbage disposal methods were also cited as health hazards.
Mayor of Spanish Town Dr. Andrew Wheatley says he has mandated the Commercial Services to look into the issue.
