Pathways leader Kevin Smith's death ruled a suicide

The death of controversial clergyman Kevin Smith, the head of Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries, has been ruled a suicide.

The verdict was delivered by the Coroner's Court on Tuesday morning.

Smith and police constable Orlando Irons died in the October 25, 2021 crash on the Linstead Bypass in St. Catherine.

The judge also ruled that the dangerous and unlawful actions of Smith, when he held onto the left shoulder of the driver, caused the Constable's death.

Additionally, the court found that the other two police officers in the vehicle were not negligent in carrying out their duties.

Constables Chevon Gordon and Ryan Harrison testified at the Coroner's Inquest held in February of a bizarre set of events which unfolded while they were transporting Smith to the Major Investigation Division office in Kingston.

The officers said Smith told them that they would not make it into Kingston and that he was going to die.

The police stormed the Montego Bay based church on October 17, 2021, following reports that congregants were being killed as part of a religious ritual.

Andre Ruddock, who is accused of killing congregants 39-year-old Taneka Gardener and Michael Brown, is still before the court.
