Pathways pastor Kevin Smith caused crash that led to his death

A Coroner's Court heard Thursday that late controversial pastor of Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries in St. James, Dr. Kevin Smith, caused the deadly crash which claimed his life and that of a Police Constable on the Linstead Bypass in St. Catherine in 2021.

The Coroner's Inquest is investigating the circumstances which led to the death of Smith and Constable Orlando Irons.

Smith was arrested for the alleged murder of a congregant inside his church and was being transported to Kingston in a police convoy when the crash occurred on October 25, 2021.

During riveting testimony Thursday, two police officers, Chevon Gordon and Ryan Harrison, who were in the ill-fated police vehicle, told the court that Smith had issued a warning to them and Constable Irons, while he was in custody in St. James, that they would not make it into Kingston and that he, Kevin Smith, was going to die.

The officers testified that the crash occurred when Smith grabbed the left shoulder of the driver, Constable Harrison, pulling him after shouting that he is from Bog Walk, St. Catherine and that he wanted to die there.

The Coroner's Inquest ended Thursday and a verdict is to be handed down on May 21.
