Police still searching for dead UWI lecturer’s helper

Homicide detectives have stepped up their search for the live-in helper who was employed to murdered University of the West Indies lecturer, Dr. Peter Vogel.

Senior investigators say they are now searching for the woman who goes by the name Yanique Whyte and Yanique Scott. The cops have however cautioned that they are not sure of her real name.They have also refrained from calling her a suspect in the murder, instead stating that she is a person of "interest". The helper and her 10 month old baby named Makela have not been seen or heard from since Dr. Vogel was found murdered at his College Common residence last Thursday. Both were living with Dr. Vogel and his family at the time of his murder. Investigators have already collected statements that the helper was at the house on the day in question and had put Dr. Vogel's two little girls to bed. Investigators say all her personal belongings including all forms of identification and photographs of her, were removed from the house. On Monday the police released the number of items stolen from Dr. Vogel's house. These include a television set, computer  and monitor, two laptop computers, two Panasonic DVD recorders, a digital camera, a karaoke machine and a DVD player. Dr. Vogel's stolen Suzuki Vitara motor vehicle was recovered along Beechwood Avenue. The police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Yanique Whyte or Yanique Scott to contact the Half-Way-Tree Police, Kingfish or the nearest police station. Dr. Vogel was one of Jamaica's lead researchers on the Jamaican iguana, and was involved in other biodiversity projects including studies on the island's two Amazon parrots, communities of amphibians and reptiles and birds in the Cockpit Country.
